The main screen
This screen is where most of the stuff happens in KVITLECH. It is a fairly busy screen. For the purpose of this document, we’ll divide the screen into 4 areas (or frames) and we’ll cover them one by one. We will then cover all the menu items.

Upper Left Frame

This frame contains all the buttons used to navigate through the game. At any given time, some of the buttons may be disabled (grayed out), depending on the current game situation. For example, you can’t move on to the next round until all players have been given a chance to play. Therefore, the ‘Next Round’ button will only be available after all players are done for the round.

  • The top part of the frame has a label that will always show the round-number of the game.
  • Beneath that we have the first of four buttons. Clicking on the ‘bet’ button presents you with a pop-up window where you enter the amount you wish to bet. Likewise, if you wish to raise your bet, you use this button. Any time you place (or raise) a bet, KVITLECH automatically deals you a card.
  • The second button is used to move on to the next player. This occurs after a player is done for that round (either by winning, losing, pending or not betting at all) and is ready to let the next player play. This button is also used to continue play after a player ‘forces the bank to play’. In this context the button caption will change to ‘continue’.
  • The ‘Next Round’ button, as its name suggests, is used at the end of each round to simply move to the next round.
  • The ‘Deal Card’ button, again as its name suggests, is used to deal a card to the active player, or to the bank, if it’s currently the bank’s turn.

Lower Left Frame

This frame is where the bank’s information is shown.

  • At the top of the frame there’s a box that shows the bank’s balance (which is the amount of money accrued by the bank from all the players).
  • Beneath this is a box showing the amount available in the bank at any given time. This amount is perhaps more important than the actual balance because a player can’t bet an amount more than what is presently available. For example consider a game with 3 players (A, B and C). If the bank starts off a round with a balance of $100 and player A bets $25. If player A is still pending when player B gets to play, the balance is still $100 but the amount available will be only $75. (In this scenario, should player B wants to bet more than $75 they could try forcing the bank to play first.)
  • Beneath the 2 boxes is where the bank’s first card is shown. If the ‘show bank’s card first’ option is not checked on the settings screen, the card will only be shown after all the players are done for the round (when the bank starts playing).

Upper Right Frame

This frame is where the cards are dealt as well as where the active player’s information is shown.

  • The title (top) of the frame will show the name of the active player (i.e. Player 1’s turn).
  • Beneath this is a box showing the amount the active player bet.

  • Beneath this is a box showing the active player’s balance.
  • You then find 2 lines showing the size of the card deck (total number of cards) as well as how many have been dealt out. (Note: KVITLECH reshuffles the deck at the beginning of each round.)
  • The rest of the area in this frame is used to show the cards one by one as they are dealt. Any card can be dragged around within this frame (you could then use the ‘reposition cards’ option under the ‘options’ menu item to reposition them to their starting location).

Lower Right Frame

This frame contains all the player’s frames depending on how many players are in the game. Each one of the player’s frame has the following in it:

  • The title of the frame showing the player’s name.
  • There will also be a flashing arrow to the right of the title if the player is currently active.
  • Beneath that is a message that indicates the status of the player.
  • The player’s bet amount if any.
  • The player’s balance.
  • The sum of the player’s cards.
  • The details button which when clicked opens the ‘player’s detail screen’.
  • The ‘eleveroon’ check box. This will be automatically checked and disabled for the duration of the game if you are playing versus the computer.

Menu items
  • Game . . .New: Ends the current game and starts a new one (KVITLECH will prompt you to confirm first).
  • Game . . Exit: Ends the game (KVITLECH will prompt you to confirm first).
  • Options . . .Force bank to play: Forces the bank to play any pending players before the end of a round.
  • Options . . . Cover next card: When you check this menu item, KVITLECH will show the next card (that is dealt) with a cover on it. This cover can then be dragged off (a millimeter at a time) to reveal the card under it. (Heightens the suspense, a throwback to the real game where cards dealt on high stakes are often uncovered real slow. Some would argue that this is the most fun part of KVITLECH).
  • Options . . . Reposition Cards: Repositions the cards to their staring locations (if they were dragged around).
  • Options . . . Game summary: Displays the summary message box.
  • Options . . . Settings: Displays the ‘settings’ screen where you can go back and change some of the settings and options in middle of a game.
  • Help . . . About: Typical about box.
  • Help . . . Help file: Shows you where you can find more help on KVITLECH.
