Playing the Game

When KVITLECH starts you are presented with the settings screen. You pick the number of players for that game and name them. You can also set or change other options on this screen. For more information on these other options, see the settings screen

After choosing all the options you click on the ‘next’ button, which brings you to the main screen. You can find more detailed documentation on this screen by going to the main-screen section of this document. In this section we will provide you with a brief overview of the main screen.

On the top left side of this screen you will find 4 buttons. The first is used to place (or raise) a bet. The second button is used to tell KVITLECH that a given player is done for that round and to move on to the next player. The third button is used to tell KVITLECH to move on to the next round. The fourth button is used to deal a card. Also shown in the top left frame of the screen, is the round-number of the game.

Depending on the situation, some of the buttons may be disabled. Also, the captions of a given button may vary from situation to situation. The purpose of each button at any given point however, will be self-evident.

At the bottom of the screen each player has a frame containing his or her name, status and information (balance, bet etc) as well as the ‘Details’ button. This button opens up the player's detail window. For more information on this window see the section titled the ‘Player's detail screen’.

At the bottom left of the screen is the bank’s frame. In this frame you can see the bank’s balance as well as the amount still available to be bet on. You can also see the bank’s first card here (provided that this option has been selected in the ‘bank’ section on the settings screen).

The top half of the screen is used as the playing area. As each player’s turn comes up, his or her name and information moves up to the top frame. A flashing arrow will also move to their corresponding frame on the bottom. As each card is drawn it is placed in the top frame as well. The cards can then be dragged around within this frame. The number of cards in the deck as well as the number already drawn is also located in the top frame.

At any point the game you can return to the settings screen to change some of the options (i.e. the refill amount, sound options etc) by clicking on ‘Settings’ under the ‘Options’ menu item. Some of the options however cannot be changed in middle of a game (i.e. the number of players) and their sections will be disabled. Other options can be changed in middle of a game but not in middle of a round (i.e. the bank options). To change these options you have to wait until the end of the round (indicated when the ‘Next Round’ button becomes enabled).

You can start a new game at any time, which means you totally wipe out each player’s balance as well as the banks. If you are playing for real, you should reconcile or record all the balances before starting a new game (you will also automatically be shown the game summary dialog box each time you end a game).

For more details on the main screen see the main screen section of this document.
